Band of Braves

South Jones High School Band of Braves Reveal Night

If you ask any South Jones High School Band member, director, or staff member, they will tell you one of the most important and enjoyable performances they give throughout the year is the annual Reveal Night. Reveal Night is a night of fantastic instrumental performances from the various ensembles and the band as a whole, as well as the highly anticipated announcement of the next year’s marching band theme for the award-winning marching band. A special guest of honor is chosen for which the performances are dedicated and all proceeds of admission are donated to. This year’s recipient was Heather Tanelle Thornton Harris. Heather was diagnosed with epidermolysis bullosa, also known as butterfly syndrome. Due to her diagnosis, Heather’s family has incurred numerous medical expenses. All aspects of the evening were chosen and planned by the South Jones High School Band Council, a group of student leaders in the band program that are chosen through a rigorous application and essay process. The South Jones Band Program began this annual tradition in 2015. Since then, thousands of dollars have been raised for various individuals in the Jones County area.

After the presentation of the check to Heather’s family, the long-awaited announcement for next year’s marching show was announced: “Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter, I”.  As you might have guessed, the marching band competition show will revolve around the great state of Mississippi and all of the wonderful diversity it has offered and will continue to offer in the future. The future is very bright for the South Jones High School band program and the wonderful students with such large compassionate hearts that encompass it.
