2017 Band of Braves Bio

Over the past 24 years, the South Jones High School Band has built a reputation as one of the most successful performing arts group in the state of Mississippi.  They have consistently received superior ratings and won first place awards in marching, concert, and sight-reading at festivals and contests in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.  The Band of Braves received national recognition in 2009 when they represented the state of Mississippi in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D. C.  In January 2012, the Band of Braves was invited to perform in Governor Phil Bryant’s inaugural parade in Jackson.  In December 2013, the South Jones Symphonic Band performed for the 76th Annual Mississippi Bandmasters State Convention in Natchez, MS.  In November 2014, the South Jones Band of Braves was named the USBands Class 5 Southern States Grand Champions in Chattanooga, TN.   South Jones has consistently placed numerous students in All-Star and All-State Bands during the past 23 years.  South Jones Band students have performed in Boston, San Diego, New York, Chicago, Denver, Hawaii, Miami, Indianapolis, San Diego, Minneapolis, Toronto, London, Paris, Rome, Vienna, Hamburg Germany, Sydney, and Hong Kong.    

 

Band directors are Artie Adams, Johnathon Benson and Brian Joyce. 

Color Guard instructor is Amber Flynt.  Additional staff members are Tim Bower, Wade Bush.
